From Japan comes the art of strengthening the flow of the life force Qi by utilizing pressure from the fingers in combination with other techniques. This is based on the doctrine of the meridians that ensure an even distribution of energy within the body.
If this flow is impaired it can result in health problems. In Shiatsu, specific points on these meridians are stimulated to release blockages, enabling the free-flowing Qi to release tensions on both physical and emotional levels.
In Shiatsu on the mat you lie on a Japanese futon and it is as if you are holding a conversation with the sense of touch, which is why Shiatsu is also called the “language of touch”.
